Breaking Up With Writer’s Block

Dear Writer’s Block:

It’s not you, it’s me. I cannot keep seeing you every day. You bring me down and you keep me idle as if my hands were tied and my thoughts are like mush. I packed your belongings that you left at my place and put them out in the yard for you to pick up. I cannot extend hospitality to you any more. If I forgot to pack something of yours, let me know via email and I will gladly get it to you.

At the beginning of our relationship I heard bad stuff about you from others, but I acted out of pride thinking I could change you. When we first met, you did not have a big impact on me, but there is something mesmerizing about you that made me forget all my hopes and dreams of being a writer. The only way to be a good writer is to write – daily. But you kept demanding my attention and I put my personal goals and desires on the back burner and for what?

I desire a more energetic relationship with others. I want to play the field…with the alphabet. I have watched them from a distance how they can be rearranged into fun words and sentences. They have more meaning than you do and for that I desire to be a part of their lifestyle rather than the boring life you and I have been living for the past few months.

I do not want our paths to cross ever again.

Sincerely,

Kristine

Words With Friends

My name is Kristine and I am an addict.

I am addicted to the 26 letters of the alphabet. I manipulate them, string them together and sentence them to say what is in my heart and on my mind.

The way I have been spending my time with words has not been on this blog. I am addicted to an online word game called Words With Friends. What seemed like a harmless App on my phone has taken me away from this blog and you, my readers.

I am addicted to competition. Within Words With Friends is a leaderboard. I monitor this frequently hoping that my valuable time is not wasted. You see, the more points that a person can rack up in the games that are being played simultaneously, have the capability of pushing a person to the top of the leaderboard. Last I checked, I was in the number 1 spot and I was proud. But, the competition is a week long and positioning changes quite frequently. For me, precious minutes of sleep are lost in this addiction as well. My friends can see how many minutes and or hours have passed since I last played a turn in our individual game which I, most likely, have initiated. Clean laundry remains unfolded and not put away, my carpet needs vacuuming and, oh geez, I wonder if the cats have been fed yet today?

What’s the big deal with this type of addiction since a lot of people are doing it too? For me, it takes away from my quiet time with God. I shorten my devotions, centering prayer, and Bible reading time for nothing in return and I usually indulge in a heaping spoonful of personal guilt over wasted time. I realize that when I spend time with God I am nurturing my relationship with Him which is an important part of my faith. This relationship fosters a peace that surpasses my human understanding, I fear less about my life, I journal more, and I tend to write more blogs. In essence, I will engage in Words With Friends, but it will be in the form of this blog and other forms of writing that I plan to do in 2014.

John 1:1-3 (NIV)
The Word Became Flesh
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.

May you be happy.
May you be well.
May you be safe.
May you be peaceful and at ease.

Happy New Year!
