I saw them lined up like soldiers against the wall; brand new shoes. At the center of the line up was a piece of white paper, purposefully placed. In yellow highlighter was written, “Please Do Not Take”. The penmanship indicated that the notice was written in haste and the ink color implied that a yellow highlighter was all the writer possessed. The note was not attention-grabbing by any means, and it makes me wonder, ‘were any shoes taken when nobody was looking?’
It has been a pet-peeve of mine to see a note, notice, or poster with a white background and yellow lettering made by markers, crayons, or paint. Without the aid of a darker color, such as black, to be used as an outline around the letters, yellow alone is not a good color to grab attention from a distance.
Unsaved people in the world are like yellow lettering. Although they spell out “Please Do Not Take”, they are fair game for the devil. He snatches up each and every one when nobody is looking.
Saved people in the world walk around with the same yellow lettering except theirs is outlined. By the water at Baptism, a protective outline appeared and the outline grew darker at the time of their Confirmation. The devil still comes around them, but the outline is a deterrent from the trouble he desires to cause.
When all people line up to meet with God at the time of judgement, the unsaved will show up wearing their plain yellow lettering, “Please Do Not Take”. The saved will stand in front of God with a new yellow message that reads, “Saved”.
What is your decision? Walk around plain yellow, or be outlined?
1 John 5:6(NIV)
This is the one who came by water and blood—Jesus Christ. He did not come by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit who testifies, because the Spirit is the truth.
