Son Rise

via Daily Prompt: Identical

I especially love the spring and summer months when I wake up before I hear the first “Good Morning!” tweet from a bird.  Ah, the stillness of the morning.  I light my way with the glow from my cell phone as I tip-toe out of the bedroom toward the kitchen to start my cup of coffee.  My three cats follow me into the kitchen for their first meal of the day.  They stretch their yoga poses while waiting for me to fill their bowls, and I think that I should be doing some stretches too.  But I don’t.

My neighborhood is tightly knit with houses right next to each other.  The height and girth of the trees lining the streets shows the age of the neighborhood.  I love where I live, but it does not offer me a good vantage point to see the rising sun, but I can see the magnificent color display of the sky as the day begins.  I grab my coffee and head into the front room which faces east.  I pull open the curtain like you see in movie theaters and I sit in my favorite chair watching the show God is putting on for me.  I cannot decide if the brilliant magenta is my favorite color or if I prefer the pastel pinks and blues that color the sky.  Each day is a surprise and I love them all.  Breathtaking, always breathtaking.   The beautiful display of color is like an orchestra in the sky, the visual crescendo gradually moving before me.  I break the silence of the morning because I cannot hold back my applause.  God is my favorite artist.

No other sunrise will be identical to the one I just witnessed.  It blows my mind.  The sun comes up every day, yet no two sunrises will ever look the same.  God has a way of making everything he creates unique.  No two snowflakes are the same.  No two sunrises are the same.  No two people are the same, not even identical twins.

I can only imagine the colors in the sky on the first Easter Morning when Jesus stepped out of the tomb.  The women who raced to the tomb did not even recognize Him standing before them.  It is probably because of the beautiful glow about him along with the glow of the new day sun.

Jesus is a new day for believers.  He is the light of the world.  He is my favorite Son Rise.

Proverbs 4:18

The path of the righteous is like the morning sun, shining ever brighter till the full light of day.

Snow Birds

I am usually an early riser. It doesn’t matter if it is the weekend or a day off, I love a good sunrise. My mantra has been, “the early bird gets the worm”. Plus, I love long days.

In the spring and summer I tend to play a little game in the morning called, “who will rise first”. This game is played with the neighborhood birds and me. I try to rise before the first bird rolls out of the nest and let’s out it’s first chirp of the day.

You may think this is a little strange, especially to all of the night-owls reading this post after noon when you roll out of bed. All I am doing is raising my awareness of the beautiful creation God has given us. In fact, as I sit here on this beautiful sunny Saturday morning, I do not hear any birds chirping. My little friends have started to head south for the winter.

I challenge you to sit in awareness today. Let me know what facet of God’s creation piques your awareness. Feel free to share in the comments section below.

Mark 1:35 (NIV)
Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed.

Prodigal Seeking God’s Forgiveness

Dear God:

When I am in your Word, I feel you close to me.  When I sit silently, I hear your sweet voice.

Please forgive me for taking a vacation from you this summer.  Rattling off excuses will be of no use.  The bottom line, I was selfish with my time.  Apple got it right when they named their products iPhone and iPad as they are hand-held me-focused toys with a few business uses.  I spent my time intertwined on the web commenting to friends on facebook and reading email after email in Yahoo all while my Bible sat on the end table in the front window getting a sunburn.

Please forgive me for taking you for granted.  I feel like I wasted this beautiful season without you near.  Recent days have not been good for me.  My smile flipped into a frown.  My aches turned into pains and when loneliness crept in, I realized I had not spoken with you in quite a while.

I am sincerely sorry for neglecting you.  Thank you that you meet me where I am.  You are the Father running to meet His prodigal child.  I am going to end this blog to spend time with you.

In Jesus’s Name I Am Forever Yours,

I God

Acts 13:38 (NIV)

“Therefore, my friends, I want you to know that through Jesus the forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you.

Summer Lullaby

On a beautiful summer evening…

The bedroom windows are open and the ceiling fan works the night shift. My husband lets out a little snore. Three of the cats have positioned themselves on the bed and the fourth is on neighborhood watch staring out a window.

The tree-toad sings a solo as the crickets hum the melody. Nature is singing me a lullaby.

[yawn] Good-night my friends.

Psalm 4:8 (NIV)
In peace I will lie down and sleep,
   for you alone, LORD,
   make me dwell in safety.
