Immediately the boy’s father exclaimed, “I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!” Mark 9:24

Guarded

I recently read somewhere that God sends His angels to protect us from many dangers during the day.  How would we revere God if we could see a flashback of our day and how many times we were saved from danger?

Our cats have a battery-operated motion toy.  It is about 12″ in diameter with a motor in the middle of a fabric skirt.  There is a little arm that moves left and right randomly and at different speeds.  The end of the arm used to have feathers, but the cats tore them off when they first got it.  Now there is some yarn-like strings that move about catching their attention.  This is a perfect distraction toy for our Amos as he tends to stalk Zoe a lot and she lets out blood-curdling screams like a woman walking through a haunted house.  A bit annoying, especially when this happens at 2 AM under our bed.

I noticed the batteries dying out last night as Amos played with it and I told him I would change the batteries today.  Don’t let cats fool you; they remember what you tell them.  This morning he was pawing at the toy and I had changed the batteries as promised.  He played with that toy while laying in a sunbeam and playing with an additional toy.  It was a really cute cat moment.

When he walks away from the toy, I turn it off.

As I was getting ready to run an errand this afternoon, he was pawing at the toy again.  Knowing I would be leaving within minutes, I caved in and turned the toy on for him.  I don’t like leaving it run without supervision, so I gave him a couple of minutes to play as I puttered around the house.  As I turned off the toy, I gave him a pat on the head and headed out the door.

I believe God sent his angels to protect me as I waited for Amos to play with his toy.  You see, I set my GPS to my destination but decided to take a different highway route than what was indicated.  I knew generally where I was going, but street of the final destination was not as familiar and I felt more comfortable with the GPS for that purpose.  As I neared the exit from the highway, I saw a police car, with its flashers on, sitting behind a car that was in an accident.  The second car in the accident was off to the other side of the highway.  I think there may have been an accident up ahead of this one as the traffic was starting to back up close to this exit.

I wonder if I would have been in that accident had I not stopped to let Amos play with his toy?  Some people might think I am overthinking this, but I believe God was watching over me today.  I ran a second errand on my way home to buy birdseed at my favorite garden store.  When I got home, I saw a live news video on Facebook an hour later and they were talking about a water main break near that store.  The ground broke open in the street and water gushed out.  I was spared that problem too.

Now you can say that recently you read somewhere that God sends His angels to protect us from many dangers during the day.  How would you revere God if you could see a flashback of your day and how many times you were saved from danger?

Thank you, God, for watching over me and sending your angels to my rescue.

Psalm 91:11-12

For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways; they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.
