Give It Time
Although my husband and I each own a car, we have a one-stall unattached garage in our back yard. When we were searching for a home to live in, we included a two-stall garage as an important item on our checklist of wants. Going through house after house and seeing all the work that would have to take place for our level of comfort, we were getting a bit discouraged. We chose the house we currently live in because the inside had been maintained very well by the sellers. We easily changed our mind on having a two-stall garage and were able to make do with the one-stall garage.
Our garage is a gathering place for treasures we mainly use outside. Tucked away in the corner is a 17-year-old lawn mower, in another corner is a snow blower. In the back our bikes hang until warmer weather returns and we have a selection of shovels, rakes and hoses. Our garage is securely shut, but if any thief wanted to get in, they would surely find a way. All of the items in the garage will eventually rust, break or deteriorate. Give it time.
The items stored in our garage are important to us as they were purchased at a price. We had to work and save the money to buy each item. Then we read in the Bible that there is a place where we can store our treasures where no rust or moth can destroy and no thief can break in and steal. This would be awesome, how can we get this space?
1 Timothy 6:17 – 18 tells us: Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment. Command them to do good, be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share.
I love the promise in 1 Timothy 6:19, In this way they will lay up treasure for themselves as a firm foundation for the coming age, so that they may take hold of the life that is truly life.
We worked hard, saved and over the years bought the items stored in our garage. Storing up Heavenly treasures will not happen overnight; give it time.
