My husband and I stayed up to usher in the new year, but we are not sure it really happened. Seriously. We decided to stop watching the Dick Clark’s Rockin’ New Year’s Eve 2015 show from the big-screen in the living room and instead crawled into bed around 11:30pm. I searched the internet on the iPad for live streaming of the New York Times Square ball drop and when I found it, we watched the final minute countdown from one year to the next. We counted down with the crowd, 20, 19, 18, 17, 16, 15…and just as our anticipation grew to yell “Happy New Year!”, the screen switched to a notice that said, “Live Streaming Temporarily Unavailable”. We looked at each other with disbelief and felt somewhat cheated that we did not see the change from one year to the next.
After frantically swiping my finger and pressing hyperlinks on the iPad, we returned to live streaming to see people kissing, streamers and confetti flying through the air in New York and the crowd, bundled up from the frigid winter air, full of smiles looking forward to what a new year will bring.
Even though we did not see the ball drop, we know we have entered into the year 2015.
Sometimes when we seek God during troubled times in our lives, we may feel him so close like the countdown to a new year; 20, 19, 18, 17, 16, 15…and then there may be silence. In our mind’s eye, we concoct a message that reads, “Connection to God is Temporarily Unavailable”. The void and silence are deafening. We look around in disbelief and feel cheated that our God did not walk with us in the final moments of when we really expected Him to be with us.
Oh, but He is there! He continues the countdown from His own clock. His timing is more beautiful than the 2,688 Waterford Crystal triangles of the New York Times Square ball. His timing is perfect and it is to our benefit that we miss out on the details of what He is doing for us during that “void”.
By faith my husband and I know we are now living in the year 2015. By faith we live knowing that God’s timing in our lives is perfect.
2 Corinthians 5:17
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!
Happy New Year!!
