iBelieve

Jesus said to her, " I am the resurrection and the life. Those who believe in me, even though they die, will live, and everyone who lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?" She said to him, "Yes, Lord, I believe that you are the Messiah, the Son of God, the one coming into the world." John 11:25-28

The Cross We Bear

You may have seen the chain email going around in the early days of email. The story where a person tells God that they do not want the cross they are bearing.

God says, “My child, open this door and toss your cross in the room and shut the door.” So the person does as they are told. God tells this person that they can open the door and pick another cross. So when they open the door, they see crosses of all sizes. Big huge ones, medium sized ones, some chipped, and some in really bad condition. In the corner is a tiny little cross and sure enough, that is the one they choose. In showing God their cross, God says to them, “My child, that is the cross you tossed in the room.”

Do you feel overwhelmed with a problem or problems? If your answer is yes, then learn to lean on God. Let God know, through quiet prayer time that you struggle with what you are going through. There is no reason to suffer silently. Even David, in the Psalms, cried out in distress. Jesus cried out while on the cross, “My God, why have you forsaken me?”

As people of God, we will experience times called the dark night of the soul. Throughout history, in studying lives of the saints, they often tell of times where they thought God had abandoned them. This is not true. He may remain silent, but He never leaves your side.

Laura Story, Christian singer/songwriter has a current song called Blessings.

Here are the lyrics.

We pray for blessings
We pray for peace
Comfort for family, protection while we sleep
We pray for healing, for prosperity
We pray for Your mighty hand to ease our suffering
All the while, You hear each spoken need
Yet love us way too much to give us lesser things

‘Cause what if Your blessings come through raindrops
What if Your healing comes through tears
What if a thousand sleepless nights
Are what it takes to know You’re near
What if trials of this life are Your mercies in disguise

We pray for wisdom
Your voice to hear
And we cry in anger when we cannot feel You near
We doubt Your goodness, we doubt Your love
As if every promise from Your Word is not enough
All the while, You hear each desperate plea
And long that we’d have faith to believe

‘Cause what if Your blessings come through raindrops
What if Your healing comes through tears
What if a thousand sleepless nights
Are what it takes to know You’re near
And what if trials of this life are Your mercies in disguise

When friends betray us
When darkness seems to win
We know that pain reminds this heart
That this is not, this is not our home
It’s not our home

‘Cause what if Your blessings come through raindrops
What if Your healing comes through tears
And what if a thousand sleepless nights
Are what it takes to know You’re near
What if my greatest disappointments
Or the aching of this life
Is the revealing of a greater thirst this world can’t satisfy
And what if trials of this life
The rain, the storms, the hardest nights
Are Your mercies in disguise

If you tossed your cross in the closet only to pick it up once again, do not despair. God holds you close; you fit perfectly in the palm of His hand.

Isaiah 49:15-16a
“Can a mother forget the baby at her breast and have no compassion on the child she has borne?” Though she may forget, I will not forget you! See, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands; your walls are ever before me.
